Penalty Waivers Will Be Considered Due to COVID-19 Impacts

The Sonoma County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office (ACTTC) is aware of the impacts from the COVID-19 emergency and shares the community's concerns. We have a long history of working with operators in times of emergency and disaster, including the recent wildfires and floods. After April 30th, the ACTTC will consider written requests for penalty waiver due to the COVID-19 emergency on a case-by-case basis.
Transient Occupancy Taxes and Business Improvement Area Assessments for the First Quarter of Calendar Year 2020 are Delinquent after April 30, 2020.
All payments received after this date will be assessed late penalties and interest as required by law. We encourage all operators who can pay on-time to do so.
Cannabis Taxes for the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2019-2020 are Delinquent after April 30, 2020 All payments received after this date will be assessed late penalties and interest as required by law. We encourage all operators who can pay on-time to do so.
Late Payment Penalty Waivers
After April 30th, the ACTTC will consider written requests for penalty and interest waiver due to the COVID-19 emergency on a case-by-case basis. Please note this is not a due date extension for all operators. Instead, this is a penalty waiver program for operators that are directly impacted by COVID-19 and need additional time to pay applicable taxes and/or assessments. Approved applicants must pay outstanding taxes and/or assessments by June 30, 2020 to qualify for waiver of penalty and interest.
The COVID-19 penalty waiver guidelines and application form are under development and will be available on the ACTTC website at the earliest opportunity.
Payment Options
The ACTTC office is currently closed to the public for walk-in services through May 3rd in accordance with the Sonoma County public health order to shelter in-place. We encourage operators to pay by mail.
