Veterans Advisory Committee Endorses the New Policy
Next advisory meeting: November 6 at 2 P.M. in Sonoma

The Veterans Advisory Committee held their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, August 14 at the Santa Rosa building. All members of the Committee were present as well as many members of the veterans’ community. Attendees asked questions and expressed their support or concerns about the proposed building policy. County staff provided clarifications and explanations to address concerns. After considering public comments, the Committee requested a few minor adjustments that the County agreed to include in the final version of the proposal.

Voting members of the Committee voted unanimously to recommend the proposed building use policy with the adjustments to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to consider the proposed policy when they meet on Tuesday, September 18th.

Future Building Improvements

We have received several questions during the last couple of meetings regarding the County's process for making and funding improvements to the Veterans Memorial Buildings. We want to assure everyone that our team is committed to the preservation of these important buildings and to advocating for improvements. During the next meeting, we will provide an overview of how the County prioritizes and funds building maintenance projects county-wide. If you have specific questions you would like us to address, please email your questions to Jeremy.Scannell@sonoma-county.org before the next meeting.

Progress update on 2018/2019 Veterans Memorial Buildings Capital Projects:

• Santa Rosa building roof - Project completed on July 16, 2018
• Petaluma building kitchen update - Project expected to complete by September 14, 2018
• Guerneville building new heating and ventilation, and hazmat clean-up - Project started September 5, 2018 (Expect substantial completion on September 30, 2018)
• Sonoma building kitchen update - Project starting September 17, 2018 (expected to complete December 7, 2018)
