Grand Opening and Public Meeting to christen facility
Santa Rosa,CA | September 21, 2015
On October 7, 2015 the Sonoma County Community Development Commission (SCCDC) will launch the Roseland Village Community Center and facilitate a public meeting for input on the repurposed facility, a new home for community focused programs, including library and children’s programs, as well as exercise and educational opportunities. The timeline for the evening is as follows:
- 5:00pm - Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
- 6:00pm - Public Meeting to discuss the updated proposals for the future development of the property
Food and beverages, as well as professional translation services and childcare will be provided.
Location: 777 Sebastopol Road, in Santa Rosa., CA.
Supervisor Efren Carrillo, who represents the area, commented, “This is a major step in the long awaited effort to revitalize the Roseland Village property. While the community continues to work with the County on future plans for the site, there will be a series of temporary installations and services available to Roseland residents – and the first library branch is among these efforts. Residents will have access to Wifi, computers, expanded childcare and other needed services. It’s a big day for Roseland, and I’m gratified that the County has remained financially committed to this project.”
In April 2015 the SCCDC issued a “Request for Preliminary Proposals for Development of the Roseland Village Property” to gather conceptual proposals for the redevelopment and revitalization of the site. Three preliminary proposals were submitted, and all featured elements of community spaces, commercial use, a public plaza and affordable housing. On June 25th public feedback was gathered on the initial proposals. This feedback has guided the refined proposals being represented on October 7th.
The SCCDC acquired the property in 2011 as a priority area for affordable housing, pedestrian-oriented commercial development, and a public space was recommended to provide a venue for recreation, entertainment, and community events. After the October 7th public meeting, SCCDC staff will begin their formal evaluations of the proposals and a recommendation will be made to the Board of Supervisors by the end of the year on the selection of a master developer for the site.
Additional project information can be found on our website (The Roseland Village Development Project) and our Facebook page (https://facebook.com/RoselandVillageNeighborhoodCenter).
The SCCDC is dedicated to promoting affordable housing, revitalizing communities, and supporting public services that increase economic stability for County residents.
