Due to Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service, July 20 Alert and Warning exercise canceled

Due to fire weather concerns in the North Bay mountains and the greater Bay Area, the City of Santa Rosa, County of Sonoma, and the National Weather Service Bay Area have decided to CANCEL the emergency alert and warning exercise scheduled for Tuesday, July 20. This exercise would have included a NOAA Weather Radio warning alarm system test to the County of Sonoma and a SoCoAlert test in a targeted geographical area in the City of Santa Rosa. The test of both systems will be rescheduled at a later date.

The National Weather Service has elevated the original Fire Weather Watch to a Red Flag Warning for the North Bay Mountains and upper elevations of Sonoma County from Sunday, July 18 at 5 p.m through Monday, July 19 at 5 p.m. The warning is based on a chance of dry thunderstorms with the potential for cloud to ground lightning. The potential weather system combined with dry vegetation conditions have the potential of starting new wildfires.
