Business Property Filing Extension

Late on Wednesday May 6, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Order extending the tax filing deadline for Business Personal Property Tax Statements from May 7, 2020 to May 31, 2020. This extension gives business owners, required to file, another three weeks to submit their statements without penalty, Assessor Deva Marie Proto, announced today. 

Business required to file are those that received a notice to file from the Assessor’s Office, or any business that owns Personal Property and/or Fixtures having a total combined cost of $100,000 or more, as required by State law. Businesses faced a 10% penalty if they were unable to file by this Thursday’s May 7 deadline. 

“It is essential that property owners complete their Business Property Statements in a timely manner to ensure that we enroll the correct value on the assessment roll,” said Sonoma County Assessor, Deva Marie Proto. 

Business personal property includes business equipment, supplies, leasehold improvements, and tangible assets like printers, copiers, furniture, manufacturing, and lab and restaurant equipment. However, it does not include real property, business inventory, application software or licensed vehicles.
