County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors Passes Resolution Ratifying Proclamation of Local Emergency due to Kincade Fire

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today ratified a proclamation of local emergency due to the Kincade Fire and the continuing fire danger created by successive wind events and PG&E power shut-offs in large portions of the county.

The Kincade Fire, a fast-moving wildland and urban fire erupted Oct. 23 and has burned 76,825 acres as of today, destroying 282 structures - including 181 homes.

The county’s emergency services director issued a local emergency proclamation Oct. 24. The Board’s ratification of the proclamation continues the local emergency, making state and local mutual aid available to the county and allowing for any state emergency funding if it is made available. 

This emergency proclamation lasts for 60 days, and the Board may extend it for 60-day periods. When conditions improve, county staff will request the Board formally terminate the emergency.

The proclamation also gives the county administrator authority to make decisions regarding pay for the county workforce, given the fire’s impacts on county facilities and services.
