Andy’s Unity Park Takes Important Steps Forward
Board of Supervisors approves design plans and funding for park
Santa Rosa,CA | December 13, 2016
On Tuesday, December 13, 2016, the Board of Supervisors approved funding for the development of Andy’s Unity Park, a 4 acre community park in Southwest Santa Rosa. This action follows a significant community engagement process to inform the development of the park.
“Andy’s Unity Park represents a critical step in the healing process for this community,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Efren Carrillo. “I’m proud of Moorland residents for their commitment to bringing this park to life, and in continuing to collaborate with us to develop these exceptional plans that will transform this neighborhood park into a beautiful place for residents to reflect and to enjoy.”
The new park will include specific features that neighborhood members have selected, including play equipment, murals, an off leash dog area, and a memorial landscape to honor Andy Lopez. The project is currently in the bidding process to hire a contractor for construction. Park development is anticipated to break ground in the spring, 2017.
To date, the County has spent approximately $1.6 million on property acquisition, design plans, and other related costs. Substantial funding commitments have been obtained through state and local grant programs, and other available revenue streams towards the $4.2 million costs for full park completion. Today, the Board of Supervisors earmarked the remaining $2.6 million needed to meet the funding gap of the project.
