River Road Bridge Replacement over Gill Creek

What’s Happening?

Sonoma County will replace the two-lane River Road Bridge over Gill Creek in Geyserville.

Location: 22891 River Road, Geyserville (Lat/Lon: 38.735432, -122.916093).

The new structure will be a single-span precast concrete girder bridge with two 11-ft lanes and 2-ft shoulders. A temporary downstream crossing will keep traffic moving during construction.

How We Got Here

The existing bridge has scour (erosion around foundations) and seismic deficiencies. These safety issues prompted the County to replace it with a modern, wider bridge that can handle floods and earthquakes.

Why It Matters

  • Provides a safer, stronger bridge that meets modern standards.
  • Removes the existing weir structure, improving stream habitat.
  • Ensures reliable access for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and emergency services.
  • Minimizes noise impacts during construction using CIDH piles.

What’s Next

  • NEPA and CEQA clearances completed in 2022.
  • Permits secured and design at 100% completion.
  • Right-of-way acquisition is underway.
  • Utility relocation scheduled for late 2025.
  • Construction expected to begin in 2026.

  • Spring 2022: NEPA clearance complete.
  • Fall 2022: CEQA clearance complete.
  • 2022–2025: Permitting and right-of-way acquisition.
